An anti-rust primer or rust converter contains rust protection pigments that stop rusting and provide the surface with long-term protection against rust. That is why an anti-rust primer is indispensable during the restoration process of the bodywork or other metal objects. A rust converter is always paintable so that you can apply the desired colour to the surface afterwards. Some primers also have a finishing layer so that the surface immediately gets a nice end result in one step. 

Before applying an anti-rust primer to the surface, you should first remove the rust with abrasive materials. Usually you can easily remove it with metal brushes, sanding brushes or ordinary sandpaper.
