A thread insert Helicoil, also known as a Helicoil insert, is a type of thread insert used to strengthen or repair threads in a damaged or worn hole in a material such as metal, aluminum, plastic, and so on. It consists of a spiral-shaped thread that has sharp threads on the outside and is hollow on the inside.



The insert is threaded into the damaged hole using a special tool that usually consists of a stud holder and an insert tool. Once the Helicoil is firmly seated in the hole, a stud is threaded through it to form new threads inside the Helicoil.
