To determine the correct cable thickness, use the following formula:

Current (A) x distance (m) x 0.2 = required cable cross-section in mm²

Example 1: A battery charger of 30A at 2.5 meters from the battery:

30A x 2.5m x 0.2 = 15mm²

Since 15mm² is not a standard size, choose the next available thickness, in this case 16mm².

Example 2: An inverter of 450W at 12V, at 3 meters from the battery:

450W / 12V = 37.5A

37.5A x 3m x 0.2 = 22.5mm²

Rounding up to the next standard size results in 25mm².
